I hate long car rides! My Mother in Law and her husband, along with me and the boys, rented a Pathfinder and drove from Marshalltown, IA to Biloxi, MS to pick up B from Tech school. I thought I was being smart and avoiding getting lost by suggesting that we only take major interstates the whole way down. I was right....we didn't get lost. Instead, we took 3 extra hours in driving. UGH! It took 19 hours to get down to Biloxi and it was definitely not my favorite thing! We decided to forgo the interstate in some spots on the way back to make the trip more direct and that helped alot. It only took 16 hours then. Still sucked!
On the bright side, while we were down there we got to look at a place we haven't seen since October 2000. We were very saddened to see the damage that is still very evident on the Biloxi Beach front. Hurricane Katrina is still very evident in many many ways. We drove by where our old house used to be and took the boys to the same strip of beach we used to take T to when we were there before. They got a big kick out of knowing that T had his first birthday there and spent 10 months there as a baby.
B officially left the Communications Squadron when he graduated on July 6th and is very excited to be heading on to Training and Education. We are a little nervous, but we know this was the best option for us.
In the few spare moments we had while we were there, I managed to find a really awesome house on the internet. It is 15 minutes from Davis-Monthan AFB and has 4 bedrooms. We had our good friend who lives on that base go look at the house for us and we have officially put in our deposit to secure the house for us to rent! We are so very excited! We were feeling pretty discouraged about finding a house off base by this point because it seemed that most places that were 4 bedrooms and of decent size (this house is 2000 sq ft) were 30+ minutes from base or out of our price range. The landlord said if we agree to more than a year on the lease, we can have the place for $1000 a month. It was supposed to be $1100. YAY!!!

19 hours! Girl don’t you have a GPS? Please tell me you split this drive into at least 2 days. When we went to Italy in June there is no way I would have kept going, splitting it in half made a HUGE difference. I love that you were able to show the boys where you lived when T was little, I hope to take S and Baby A back to Belgium one day before we leave Germany to do the exact same. Probably more for me than them but whatever.
I am still in love with that house and I can’t wait to see it put together. It is not a home until you guys are settled into it. I am so excited for you, I’m sure it makes a big difference in how you feel about getting there now that you know you have a great place to live. I don’t think I would want to take another day getting there, but that’s just me.
Congrats to B for the change over, I hope his new squadron is a great one.
